Bo Kong is an Assistant Research Professor of the Energy, Resources, and Environment program at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and he directs the Program’s research on East Asia. He also sits on the Advisory Board of the Revenue Watch Institute, the Mitigation Board of the Global Network for Climate Solutions of Columbia University’s Earth Institute, and the International Editorial Board for the Universiti of Kebangsaan Malaysia’ journal—JEBAT: Malaysian Journal of History, Politics, and Strategic Studies. He is also a senior associate in the Energy and National Security Program of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and a member of the ChinaFAQs Expert Group.

Previously, he served a number of positions in the analytical community, including Director of the Global Energy and Environment Initiative at SAIS, Energy and Mining Associate at Ayrlie Partners, Chief Energy Economist for ChinaStakes.com, Visiting Scholar at the Institute for Global Dialogue in South Africa, Research Fellow at the Center for Global Security of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, and Research Associate at the Shanghai WTO Affairs Consultation Center. Born and raised in western China, he earned his M.A. and Ph.D. from SAIS. His recent book is China’s International Petroleum Policy.
