The nuclear energy outlook in the U.S. seems uncertain as the nuclear industry faces fierce competition from natural gas and renewable energies, cost overruns in construction, and burdensome regulations. However, robust nuclear power programs are continuing in other regions of the world, especially in parts of Asia. What are the challenges facing the nuclear energy sector in technological competitiveness, operational safety, and national security? AE2C will bring together a group of experts to discuss these pressing issues to help illuminate the potential future of nuclear power development around the world.

This high energy panel includes:

  • Dr. Rita Baranwal, Director, Gateway for Accelerated Innovation in Nuclear (GAIN) Idaho National Laboratory, US Department of Energy (DOE)
  • George Gellrich, Vice President Licensing and Regulatory Assurance, Exelon Corp
  • Ho Nieh, Director, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)
  • Amy Roma, Partner, Hogan Lovells US LLP, co-author Back from the Brink, A Threatened Nuclear Energy Industry Compromises National Security

Moderated by:

Janice Dunn Lee , Deputy Director General Emeritus, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)

Reception to follow.
