On May 13th, the Energy Bar Association’s International Energy and Transactions Committee and AE
2
C co-sponsored a brownbag seminar to review and discuss China’s Energy Policies. Jones Day hosted the event in downtown Washington DC, just blocks from the Capitol. AE
2
C president, Bob Gee, served as the moderator for the group of expert panelists including
Kevin Jianjin Tu, Senior Associate at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Harry Vidas, Vice President of ICF Consulting
,
Mingda Zhao, Senior Associate in Vinson & Elkins Corporate Department, and remotely, Michael E. Arruda, Partner in Jones Day’s Energy Group.
The discussion centered on China’s comprehensive energy supply system, and the challenges the country faces as energy consumption continues to increase.
Mr. Kenneth Barry provides an overview of the discussion in his article –
Increasingly Linked: China and U.S. energy Markets, Aspirations
You can also review the presentations covering drivers that underline national coal consumption in China and prospects for US-China coal trade; China’s shale gas potential, shale-gas development challenges, and the implications for U.S. shale gas markets; and acquisition and joint venture transactions with Chinese and U.S. companies.
Harry Vidas, ICF, "China’s Unconventional Gas Resources"
Mingdao Zhao, Vinson and Elkins, "Chinese Energy Investments into the U.S."
Kevin Tu, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, "Chinese Coal & US-China Coal Trade"
